Description

The Mobile Connection Development Workshop offers Licensees a framework for understanding the Mobile Connection application. The workshop will consist of a series of educational segments followed by hands-on exercises to demonstrate and teach the capabilities of the Mobile Connection Framework.

The goal of the workshop is to:

  • delineate the Mobile Connection development framework and architecture
  • develop m-Apps using the framework provided by SunGard Higher Education and related technologies

Objectives

At the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to:

  • Install and configure Mobile Connection in a development environment.
  • Understand the overall architecture for mobile application development, deployment and testing on one or more mobile platforms (Android and / or iPhone **see Prerequisites)
  • Develop UI for Mobile applications.
  • Develop middle tier Mobile Server Agents for end to end data retrieval.
  • Use Grails to create Web Service JSON Agents for the Mobile Server.
  • Deploy strategy for mobile applications in production.
  • Develop simple mobile applications as the initial step toward building applications for the institution.

Audience

This workshop is designed for technical resources responsible for developing and deploying solutions for mobile devices such as software developers and software architects.

Required Prerequisite Knowledge

Attendees must have the following skill set:

  • Some Java exposure with JDBC programming understanding
  • Some Grails exposure
  • Groovy Development exposure

Rhodes framework reading will be helpful (http://rhomobile.com/products/rhodes/)

Remote access to your institution’s Banner 8.x Database (DEV) is required. Remote connectivity will require BANINST1 account credentials for JDBC connections. Sample student accounts in Banner with Third party Id, Email address and Pin must be setup to access Grades and Course Schedules data values. Banner 8.x Encrypted Pin functionality will need to be enabled.

Obtain a license for Mobile Connection from SunGard Higher Education
Download SunGard Mobile Connection <<latest release>> on all the computers (must have letter amendment signed pre-download being available)
Banner 8.x Database connectivity (Credentials for connecting to database) with sample students with Grades/Schedules dataset. Encrypted Pin functionality enabled
Identify an RSS feed source to incorporate in an m-App
